It is with fond memories that we announce the passing of Arlie Clifton Cooper, age 79—a beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Vietnam War Veteran, and Masonic Brother. Arlie Cooper passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024, in the company of his family.
Born on September 25, 1945, in California, Arlie was a man who embodied the values of honor, service, and patriotism. At the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country with distinction in the Vietnam War. As a Staff Sergeant in the 39th Division, he faced the challenges of war with courage and resilience, serving two tours of duty and earning two Bronze Stars, three Purple Hearts, and the Army Commendation Medal. His commitment to his country never wavered.
After returning home from Vietnam, Arlie was known for his unwavering support of those he loved and his kind, strong presence. He was a dedicated Mason, promoting charity and goodwill throughout his community. Whether as a father, grandfather, or friend, Arlie was a grand presence and source of inspiration to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Cooper, and his sister, Lynn Ridley. Arlie is survived by his brother, Hal Cooper; his sister, Lori Nelson Byrne; his brother, Alan Nelson; his children, Cliff Nelson, Kathy Cooper Henke, and Sam Cooper; his grandchildren, Chrystie Nelson, Caitlyn Nelson, Tyler Henke, Jessica Guyton, Cooper Henke, Wesley Henke, Natalie Henke, Zander Saldaña, Daiven Cooper, Lynnleigh Cooper, and Travis Pierce; and his great-grandchildren, Magnolia Guyton and Montana Saldaña.
Visitation and receiving of friends will take place on Monday, November 25, from 11AM to 1PM at Family Funeral Service. A service of military honors will follow at 2PM at Parker’s Crossroads Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 693 Wildersville Road, Wildersville, TN 38388, where military honors will be presented to commemorate his life and service to our country.
