Charles Thomas Bell, 78, of Adamsville, Tennessee, passed away on June 24, 2025. He was born on September 13, 1946, in Shannon, Mississippi, to Ruel Bell and Hilda Mae Evans Bell.
Charles proudly served in the United States Navy and was stationed on the USS America during the Tonkin Gulf Resolution. After his service, he worked for 38 years with AT&T—later Lucent Technologies—retiring as a Senior Systems Service Technician. He later worked for Mastec for over five years, where he continued his legacy of dedication, precision, and pride in a job well done.
A man of quiet strength and curiosity, Charles had a deep love for computers, technology, and movies. He enjoyed tennis and took lessons from Roscoe Tanner’s brother-in-law. But perhaps what defined Charles most outside of work was his adventurous spirit, which he shared deeply with his wife of 57 years, Barbara Bell.
Together, Charles and Barbara traveled far and wide, exploring the beauty of the natural world. Their journeys took them to the majestic Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park in Montana, Waterton Lakes in Canada, the open wilderness of Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and the trails of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. These were not just sightseeing trips—they were full immersions into the landscapes they loved.
They worked together managing a campground for Idaho State Parks near Coeur d’Alene and served at the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument in Montana under the Bureau of Land Management. At Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee, they ran eagle tours, staffed the U.S. Fish and Wildlife visitor center, and maintained the lakefront grounds.
Throughout Tennessee, they explored and visited many beloved parks including Big Ridge, Big Hill Pond, Cedars of Lebanon, Chickasaw, Fall Creek Falls, Henry Horton, Montgomery Bell, Natchez Trace, and Nathan Bedford Forrest. Their camper was a faithful companion and symbol of their shared spirit for the open road.
Charles is survived by his wife, Barbara Bell; his son, Christopher Eugene Bell of Olive Branch, Mississippi; his sister, Katherine “Kathy” Voorhies (David) of Toney, Alabama; and his niece and nephew, Richard Wayne Duggan (Becky) of Tupelo, Mississippi, and Mary Katherine Blanton (Harold) of Arlington, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruel Bell and Hilda Mae Evans Bell, and by his daughter, Regina Marie Bell.
