Dewey Lee Baker, age 85, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026. Born on August 17, 1940, to the late Gentry and Sarah Baker, Dewey lived a full and spirited life rooted in hard work, love for family, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.
Of the Baptist faith, Dewey held his beliefs close and lived by the values of kindness, humility, and resilience. He loved a dairy dip, watching Amish buggies go by, spending time at flea markets and sale barns, and admiring old things. He had a soft spot for animals—especially cats—and found peace in the company of the creatures he loved. Dewey also loved cars and enjoyed buying, selling, and trading many over the years.
As a young man, Dewey worked hard. He and his brothers spent many years working for their father in the family’s antique salvage store, helping move furniture and restore the old treasures they came across. This early experience helped shape his love for craftsmanship and his deep respect for hard work.
Dewey went on to become a skilled carpenter for the State of Tennessee, where he worked for nearly 20 years and received numerous awards and accolades for his dedication and craft. A proud Mason and expert bricklayer, he partnered with a craftsman from Germany, and together they completed projects across Nashville—leaving behind beautiful, lasting work and a strong professional legacy.
He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children: Sandy & Richard Smith of Nevada; Darrell & Cindy Baker of White House, TN; Jeff Baker of Colorado; Kenny Baker of Smyrna, TN; and Angie & Ken Blanton of Shiloh. He leaves behind a legacy in his grandchildren: Alex, Jocee, Sydni, Courtney, Josh, Lane, Rilee, Ethan, Josiah, Willow, Cassidy, Danni, Kayla, Jordan, Megan, Dylan, and Logan; and many beloved great-grandchildren, including Gregory, Molly Joe, Charlie, Nevaeh, Collier, Trevor, McKayla, Hudson, Raylon, Callum, Brooklyn, DJ, and Nova.
He is also survived by his brother, Eddie & Jennifer Baker of Mt. Juliet, TN, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: Larry Baker, Jim Baker, and Ricky Baker.
