Mary Frances Holcomb, known lovingly as “Frances,” was born on September 26, 1949, in Saltillo, Tennessee, to Earnest and Helen Alexander. Frances passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, following a brief illness. Her warmth, dedication, and love for her family and community will be remembered by all who knew her.
Frances had a lifelong passion for quilting, crafting pieces that brought comfort and beauty to those around her. She was a devoted member of the Saltillo Church of Christ, where her faith inspired her service to others. In addition to quilting, Frances had a fondness for connecting with friends on FarmTown, a Facebook game she particularly enjoyed. Her easy smile and gentle spirit brought joy to those around her.
Frances is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Walt Holcomb, with whom she shared a life of love and laughter. She leaves behind her children, Kevin Turnbow (Loretta Sides) of Bolivar, TN, Lisa Ashby (Morris) of Mansfield, TN, Gregory Holcomb, and Richard Holcomb. Her cherished grandchildren, Casey Turnbow, Alix Newbill, Andrew Newbill, Anna Newbill, Lucas Turnbow, and Hunter Holcomb, will carry forward her legacy of love. Frances will be missed deeply by her special friends Susan Smith, Glenda Hamilton and Pamela Phipps whose friendship enriched her life in countless ways.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Helen Alexander, her first husband Pete Turnbow, her sister Freeda Delaney, her grandparents Charlie and Rosa Collins, and her son Matthew Holcomb who died on October 27, 2024, whose memories she held close to her heart.
Services to honor and celebrate the life of Frances will be held on Wednesday, October 30, at 2 PM at the Saltillo Church of Christ, with Brother Chase Qualls officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from noon until the time of service. Pallbearers will include her grandsons, Casey Turnbow, Andrew Newbill, Lucas Turnbow, and Hunter Holcomb, along with her nephews Jonathan Delaney and Nicholas Delaney. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Justin, Dale Collins, Danny Kelly, Denny Alexander, Kenny Collins, and Eddie Golf.
Following the service, Frances will be laid to rest at Shady Grove Cemetery. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Volunteer Hospice for their compassionate care and support during this time. Arrangements are entrusted to Associated Family Funeral Home, who are honored to serve in memory of their dear friend, Frances.
