James Roy Sweat was born August 13,1946 to the late Roy Dee (Booster) and Jewel Lee Sweatt Sweat. He attended Selmer High School where he had such a love for football. He would walk 3 miles to practice, to and from the ball games in his younger days. He made his home in Selmer until his passing December 24,2023. On Dec. 20,1965 he married Betty Louise Taylor until her passing March 5,2005. He was a member of Falcon Baptist Church since he was a young teen. He loved farming, working at the cotton gin, carrying groceries at Charles Lee’s Grocery Store, and later in life he owned and operated Sweat’s Sheet Metal Shop. James Roy worked until a few years before his passing. He is survived by his; son Greg (Mona) Sweat; 3 daughters Laura (Wayne) Forsyth, Jeri Ann Sweat (Joey), and Heather Manley; brother Gerry Don (Geraldine) Sweat; sister Jennie Sue (Gary) Lipford; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; 4 nephews Milton and Michael Nash, Jeremy and David Sweat. He was preceded in death by; his wife, parents, sister Ann Sweat, and grandparents Stant (Emma) Sweat and Foy (Maggie) Sweatt. Funeral services will be held 12/31/2023 at Falcon Baptist Church in Selmer,Tn starting at 2pm. The family will receive friends from 1pm until service time on Sunday at the Church. Mr.Sweat will be laid to rest in the Church cemetery following the services on Sunday. Bro.Jay Houston will officiate the services and James Roy nephews and great nephews will serve as pallbearers.
