James Sweat, III Obituary

Mr James Reters (JR) Sweat III , age 67 passed at his residence March 21st 2024.  He was born August 5th, 1956 in Phenix City, AL to James R Sweat Jr and Rosemary Joy Wooten Sweat.  JR was a retired construction worker and a member of the Landmark Pentecostal Church in Stantonville, Tn, he was also a very avid fisherman and hunter. In JR's life, his accomplishments include doing seminars and filming for Bass Pro, being a host and guest for Southern Woods and Water TV show out of Nashville.  He was a member of several charitable organizations which include Hope Outdoors, Fins and Feathers, Hunting the Cure and Delta Water Fowl. JR was also the past director of The World Champion Catfishing tournaments, the longest running catfish tournament in the United States. He also hosted The Monday Night Fruit Jar Bass Tournament at Pickwick.  James Reters Sweat III loved to take people hunting and fishing,  always looking to help others learn about nature and the outdoors.

J R will take one last boat ride down the Tennessee River which will be hosted by his sons Rette and Bailey.  Family and friends will gather at the River Heights Boat Ramp in Crump  waiting for his return to shore in his boat. There will be a funeral procession, with J R still riding in his boat, from the River Heights Boat Ramp to Mars Hill Cemetery at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, March 27th, 2024 with graveside services beginning at 1pm.

J R leaves behind to mourn his passing his Fiance' Judy Goodman of Savannah, 2 sons, James Reters "Rete" Sweat IV of Hohenwald, Tn and Bailey Sweat  (Katelyn) of Leapwood, a daughter Brooke Moses of Pratville, AL. One sister Kathy Joy Houston of Columbus, Ga. 3 grandchildren, Khole Taylor, Sutton and Sawyer Sweat.  He also leaves 2 nieces Amy Tate of Phenix and Carrie Paris of Columbus.  He is preceded by his parents.

Visitation for J R will be at Landmark Pentecostal Church in Stantonville on Tuesday, March 26th from 5pm until 9pm.  Funeral Services will be at the Mars Hill Cemetery near Adamsville at 1pm.  Bro Darrell Moffett will officiate, with friends and family sharing sweet memories of J R.

Our family at Associated Family are  very honored and grateful to have been chosen to serve the Sweat Family. Our prayers go out to the family and friends for comfort at this trying time.

The music playing in the background of this obituary is dedicated in honor of JR's Fiance', Judy Goodman whom he was planing to marry.  He had just given her the ring for engagement and we extend our sincere sympathy to her and to all the rest of family and friends.  May you all have peace and comfort.
