Joey Crumby Obituary

Joey Crumby, age 56, of Savannah, Tennessee, died on December 8, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Born on April 26, 1969, to the late James Crumby and Deloris Read Crumby, Joey was a devoted family man, skilled mason, and passionate outdoorsman. A lifelong resident of Savannah, he was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge # 102 and actively involved in his community. Joey served as an ambassador for Donate Life and was a committed member of the EMS Association, always striving to make a difference in the lives of others. He served Hardin County as a paramedic for 38 years.  He also previously served as EMS Director for Hardeman County.

Joey was a true fighter who bravely battled sarcoidosis and congestive heart failure (CHF) for many years. On June 8, 2025, he received the gift of life through a heart transplant—a blessing that gave him more time with those he loved. Though he faced many battles along the way, Joey remained strong in faith and spirit. In the end, he won the good fight and found eternal peace in heaven.

He was a man of many talents and interests. Joey loved hunting, fishing, photography, woodworking, and gunsmithing. He never missed an episode of Moonshiners and was a dedicated Tennessee football fan, always cheering on the Vols with pride.

Throughout his career and advocacy, Joey received numerous awards recognizing his dedication and excellence in emergency services and community service. These honors include the 2000 VFW Paramedic of the Year, 2013 Exemplary Service Award, 2014 VFW/EMT of the Year, 2014 Tommy Irwin Lifetime Achievement Award, and 2016 VFW EMT of the Year. He also successfully secured proclamations from both Hardin County and the City of Savannah to officially recognize April as Donate Life Month, a cause he championed with passion and purpose.

Joey is survived by his loving wife, Amanda Crumby; sons, Connor Brawdy and Wyatt Brawdy; daughters, Bethany Crumby and Brittany Higgs (Jason); brother, James Crumby, Jr. (Nancy); sister, Jama Hosea (Terry); beloved grandchild, Dean Higgs; and his longtime EMS partner and friend, Clint Jerrolds (Donna). He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Deloris Crumby, and his first wife of 28 years, Teresa King Crumby.
