John Handy Obituary

John Lawrence Handy, Jr., 62, passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Savannah, Tennessee, on October 31, 2024. Born on July 20, 1962, in Richmond, Indiana, to John Handy Sr. and Frieda Lakes Handy, John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend whose presence brightened the lives of those around him.

John spent his working life as a dedicated truck driver, a career that reflected his hard work and commitment to providing for his family. Outside of work, he found great joy in simple pleasures—he loved nothing more than grilling out and sharing food, laughter, and stories with his family and friends. John was also an enthusiastic ham radio operator, known by the call sign KB0RJX, where he connected with others across the miles, always ready for a friendly conversation or a signal check.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Jean Handy; his children, John Handy III (Ashley Rowell) and Natasha Handy; his mother, Frieda Handy of Indiana; and his sister, Tonya Roark (Dan), also of Indiana. John was a proud grandfather to Isaac Handy, Baylee Warren, Johnny Swain, and Chance Cook, each of whom brought him tremendous joy and fulfillment.

John's warmth, humor, and welcoming nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lasting memories, and his absence will be felt in the hearts of his family and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be announced at a later date.
