Paul McCoy Obituary

Paul Larry McCoy was born November 10th, 1937 in Ashland, KY to Henry and Alfretta McCoy.  He was raised in Pikeville, KY along five siblings – Sharon, Gilbert, Bonnie, Sandy, and John.  The McCoy’s headed south and moved to Orlando, FL when Paul was just 13 years old, and at the age of 17, he joined the United States Navy.

He spent a few years roaming the seas and adventuring before his honorable discharge in 1959.   He had been working for Hunts Construction Company in Orlando, FL, and whether or not he had been looking for love, it didn’t take long at all until he stumbled upon a new crush.

While on his paper route through Union Park, collecting money with his mother, he had found a true humdinger – Sally Schiedel.  Not too long after that, being quite the romantic, he asked Sally on a date to a drag race.  Dressed in a large, fancy hat, as any Buffalo girl would be, she squeezed into his seatless Volkswagen, sat down on a stack of newspapers, and watched as a nervously awkward Paul tried to navigate the road without his glasses (he’d decided to leave them at home).  Somehow, the man had managed to pull it off.  Quite sure of themselves, they decided they were going to get married just three months later, and married they were on February 17, 1961, at the Union Park Methodist Church.

From April of 1960, Paul worked at Deep South Products, taking Radio and TV Repair courses at Orange County Vocational School by day and jarring peanut butter by night.  In February of 1961, he left behind the glamour of the business to work for Lockheed Martin.  Shortly thereafter, Sally gave birth to their first child, Michael, on July 21st.  Over the next decade, Paul and Sally had two more children – Kelly and Jason. In 1972, Paul left Lockheed Martin to begin his own trucking business, which he managed for the next 8 years.  In 1980, he returned to Martin as a Senior Engineer and remained there until 1993.

After a thorough amount of elbow grease and a number of repairs, in 1995, Paul and Sally set sail on the Nice-N-Easy, exploring the Florida Keys, the Bahamas, and any other place the sea would take them.  After a year or so, the two cruised up the Mississippi River to Tennessee where they would buy their home in Lawrenceburg, grow day lilies, join the local Tea Party chapter, fill their flowerbeds, and swim in their pool for hours on end.  He has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Later Paul and Sally moved to Adamsville, TN where Paul would live for the remainder of his life.

After a long, long life of hunting, fishing, building, exploring, gardening, and learning, Paul passed away from this life on February 24, 2024 at the age of 86 at his home in Adamsville.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alfretta, and his sister Bonnie.

He leaves behind, Sally McCoy, his wife of 63 years, three children, Michael and wife Lisa McCoy of

Oviedo, FL, Kelly and husband Keith Pitts, of Adamsville, TN and Jason McCoy of Adamsville, TN,

6 grandchildren – Casey (Rick), Savannah and husband J.R., Alyssa, Ryan, Zachary (Ruby) and Tyler, 5 great-grandchildren Rickey, Henry, Sally Anne, Reagan, Riley, and one on the way.
