Phillip Smothers

Phillip Gilbert Smothers, age 72, of Tennessee, passed away on August 21, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Hospital. Born on January 26, 1953, in Michigan, he was the son of the late Buford Eugene Smothers and Mary Smothers.

Phillip worked for many years with Norfolk Southern Railroad before moving from Michigan to Tennessee in 1992. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, painting, and playing pool.

He is survived by his children, Phillip B. Smothers (Sara Hill), Jason Smothers (Jill), Mike Smothers (Mary), and Angel Smothers; his grandchildren, Max DeBlock, Easton Smothers, Spencer Orme, Dawson Orme, Wyatt Hill, Owen Smothers, Alyssa Murie, Brayden Murie, Delila Smothers, and Emmett Smothers; and his sister, Trisha Sebastian, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bradford Smothers.

A service celebrating Phillip’s life will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Associated Family Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at noon and continuing until the time of service.
