The Lord called home our beloved father, Woodie Hall Bounds, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the age of 83.
Woodie was born on May 9, 1942, in Mobile, Alabama, to Roland and Elvie Bounds. He was a devoted husband of 53 years to his wife, Shirley, a committed father to his sons Bo and Ben, a loving father-in-law to Wendy, and a proud grandfather to Ella Hall and Wilkes Bounds.
Woodie grew up in Thomasville, Alabama, and in Drew, Rosedale, and Pascagoula, Mississippi. He attended Mississippi State University in Starkville, where he was a proud Sigma Chi and later served as Vice President and Executive Board Member of the MSU Bulldog Club for more than a decade. He also served his country in the Army National Guard and Reserves at Camp Shelby.
Woodie spent several years in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Columbus, Mississippi, before settling in the Jackson and Madison area. A lifelong community servant, he coached football, baseball, basketball, and soccer throughout the 1980s. He was also a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Jackson and the first board member of the Delta Regional Foundation, where his leadership played an integral role in the foundation’s success.
Woodie was happiest traveling throughout the Southeast, as well as to Scotland and Ireland, especially to Netterville Manor in Ireland’s Boyne Valley—his ancestral home. He loved attending Mississippi State sporting events and spending time at home surrounded by family and close friends. One of his greatest joys was knowing that his grandchildren, Ella Hall and Wilkes, would be graduating from Mississippi State University.
In addition to those already listed, Woodie is survived by his brother Roland and sister Mim, and was preceded in death by his mother Elvie, father Roland, stepfather Vernon May, sisters Iler and Terri Bounds, and brother Joe May.
His wisdom, compassion, conviction, empathy, and unwavering love for family and friends will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made through the Mississippi State University Foundation and designated for the MSU College of Business Advancement Fund. Commitments may be made online at www.msufoundation.com or by mailing checks payable to MSU Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 6149, Mississippi State, MS.
